The multilingual dictionary interface, VāṇīSetu has been developed as a part of our doctoral research work. The research work was undertaken
by Supriya Chauhan, Research Scholar, Department of Linguistics, Faculty of Arts, Banaras Hindu University under the supervision of Dr. Praveen
Gatla, Assistant Professor, Department of Linguistics, Faculty of Arts, BHU, in association with our technical expert, Aditya Sinha.
Our lexical database consists of 403 words, derived by merging the Swadesh 207 wordlist and Abbi's (1991) Appendix 3 and 4 wordlists. After removing overlaps,
we have 403 unique entries. The dictionary lists equivalents of these English glosses in Hindi, Bhojpuri, Magahi, and Maithili.
Data for Bhojpuri, Magahi, and Maithili was collected through fieldwork in Buxar, Arwal, and Madhubani districts of Bihar respectively. Hindi data was
sourced from secondary references like dictionaries.
This dictionary is non-profit and free to use. It accepts input in Roman script and returns output in both IPA and Devanagari.
